Welcome

This is me with my 1983 Stratocaster playing a gig in Montreal in 1983.

I have been playing guitar since I was 12 years old. I am now in my early 50’s (oh god! really?) but I still feel 25. OK, maybe some days 35. I have been in bands, studios and jazz orchestras all my life, and I love everything about live music.

In the early 1980s, when The Police and U2 were still new acts, I was playing punk and new-wave in the clubs of Montreal.

I am now playing guitar and doing some vocals for The Dorset Park Band in Toronto as well as performing solo gigs for parties. I still play the same 1983 Strat (as well as a few other beauties.)

I have been performing all my professional life, but most of it is as a speaker, talking to corporate audiences about technology and people. But there’s still a stage, an audience, and a sound crew, and it’s great fun in its own way. My speaking website is steveprentice.com.

I love 70’s music. Classic rock, yacht rock, R&B, and and disco. I enjoy things that are difficult to play yet have a degree of art and poetry in the solos, like Peter Frampton, Steely Dan, Dire Straits. My blogs on this site are about music and the showbiz industry. They are listed at the bottom of this home page, and I am also putting together an index of them here.

My biggest audience (to date) was approximately 5,000, when I played with a group of bands during the Grey Cup festivities in Toronto, headlined by April Wine and Great Big Sea.

I am passionate about music and music history and I read or listen to every biography I can get my hands on. Ultimately, music is always about the audience. Making them feel great, and letting them enjoy the pleasure of experiencing music together.
